If you have an interest in building or carpentry, then this course could be exactly what you are looking for!

This pre-apprentice carpentry course is designed to introduce the student to the building trades with an emphasis on carpentry, and will provide you with:

  • Michigan Asbestos Abatement License
  • Power tools training
  • OSHA 10 safety certification
  • Construction-related math skills
  • First aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Respirator fit test and use
  • Hands-on construction training

Most importantly, because of the level of employer demand in this sector, you are guaranteed a job interview on successful completion of your course.

Classes are offered through Detroit’s ‘Emerging Industries Training institute’ (EITI) – an employer-led facility with a focus on long-term, sustainable employment.

To be eligible for this training, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A high-school graduate (or have passed a GED)
  • Able to lift 50-100lbs
  • Able to travel for work
  • Able to pass a drug screen
  • Able to stand for 8-10 hours at a time
  • Able to correctly read a tape measure

These positions are EEOC compliant and veterans and jobseekers with disabilities are encouraged to apply! Those with no felonies are preferred, but applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Classes are starting soon. Once again, there are no course fees, no classroom fees, no placement fees, just good quality training leading to recognized credentials and a guaranteed job interview at the end!
