DESC Launches New Website

Detroit Employment Solutions has launched a new website, giving jobseekers and businesses a wealth of information and providing a much more user-friendly experience for customers accessing the site via smartphones and tablets.

The new website, which has been designed and built by Mort Crim Communications (MCCI), offers improved navigation and a range of workforce related content drawn from DESC’s city-wide partner network.  It has also been designed to be accessible to visitors with vision impairments.

“The existing DESC website was growing old, both in layout and usability.”  said Jose Reyes, Chief Operating Officer for DESC.  “More importantly, it was not addressing the needs of visitors as well as we would have liked.”

The previous DESC website was designed before smartphones and tablets delivered such a large proportion of web traffic.  “Nearly 40% of our hits come from smartphones” said Reyes “so we have to make sure the site is built to cater to that audience”.

The new site features landing pages for jobseekers, businesses and youth, and integrates functionality from other key job seeker resources.  Access to the State’s ‘Pure Michigan Talent Connect’ resource is built into the new site, enabling job seekers to search for jobs without leaving the DESC website.  The new site also provides the homepage for the new HIRE DETROIT! awareness campaign that was launched December 12.

“We are delighted that so many of our partners are going to be working with us to generate content for the new site” said Pamela Moore, President and CEO of DESC.  “As the hub of workforce and training solutions for the city, we need to be providing news to the community about opportunities and stories that will be of interest to them.  The new website will allow us to demonstrate the full scope of the work we do, both on our own and with our partners around the city.”

The new site launched December 12 at  Visitors to the original site will be redirected.
