Success Story – A Recipe for Success

Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) strives to drive our city forward professionally.  This dedication begins with our One-Stop Service Centers where our staff work one-on-one with customers and employers. Before an individual is referred to a new position, they experience the many services DESC offers to our customers, which help prepare them for their professional endeavors. Our team sees potential in all of our customers and is determined not to let their obstacles define them in their pursuit for employment.

DESC’s process behind finding employment for our customers is very detailed and focuses on every aspect of their professional selves.  We offer everything from resume building workshops to technical skill training for specific employment opportunities.

With the help of career advisers, customers are prepared individually to meet our affiliated employers. This careful attention to detail also ensures that our employers are satisfied with the candidates we refer.

Emmanuel Montgomery is just one individual that has sought out Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation for help with his job search.  Like many others that seek employment assistance from DESC, Mr. Montgomery had barriers to overcome. Because of his criminal record, finding a job on his own was very difficult. Before coming to DESC he had reached a road block in his employment search. Not only was he unable to find a job, but many times he was actually turned away from interviews.

DESC gives our customers the individual attention they need to take positive steps forward on their path to a career.  In order to give Emmanuel Montgomery’s job search a refresh, his DESC career advisor recommended attending the resume workshop and referred him for the General Assessment of Instructional Needs (GAIN) assessment, which measures English, reading and math competencies. With this help, he was able to redesign his resume by describing his skills in more detail and highlighting his strengths.

After three months of applying himself at one of the DESC One-Stop Service Centers, Emmanuel Montgomery found employment.  He interviewed with a local restaurant and was hired on the spot as a cook.  Mr. Montgomery completed every task given to him by his career advisor and turned his situation around for the better.  The combination of his hard work and the dedication of DESC’s team gave Mr. Montgomery new opportunities and the confidence he needed to achieve employment.

“I have learned so much from the resume workshop and I’m very appreciative of my new position.  I couldn’t find work on my own.  No one would even interview me with my background.  I’m so grateful for DESC’s help!”
