Vanessa Rucker needed assistance in finding employment when she first came to Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation. Despite having a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and experience in economic development she wanted guidance towards identifying job opportunities that interested her.
Working with her Career Advisor, Vanessa enrolled in the Platform to Employment (P2E) training program where she was able to gain new skills that improved her career readiness and increased her marketability with employers. She underwent skill assessments to discover her strengths and weaknesses. She also participated in resume and interview workshops that allowed her to update her resume, reflect on the industries she was interested in and know how to highlight her skillset to reflect what employers look for when reviewing resumes. Additionally, she received one-on-one coaching to assist with identifying and moving past barriers to employment.
After completing the 5 week program, Vanessa began her job search, following every lead she found. She met with P2E monthly after the program ended to discuss job leads and any difficulties she was encountering. After 3 months of searching, she found a position as a Micro Loan Fund Manager for Michigan Women’s Foundation.
“I am grateful to my Career Advisor for informing me about P2E,” Vanessa said. “I love my new job and hope to be promoted within the Michigan Women’s Foundation.”
Good luck to you Vanessa!
