Rina Reyes was referred to Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) partner, SERCO, via the Michigan Department of Human Services to become a PATH program participant. This recommendation came after she had requested assistance in order to pay rent and take care of her three children.
She started with SERCO as an Application Eligibility Period (AEP) participant, where several barriers such as transportation were addressed, and job readiness workshops were provided. Shortly after her 21-day AEP completion, she began her job search. With the help of Jackets for Jobs, another DESC partner, Rina received interview clothes and was advised on how to act and dress professionally.
During her time with SERCO, DESC provided Rina with important services such as the opportunity to work with someone one-on-one to obtain the basic skills to make a resume for employment and also paid for her re-certification as a Patient Care Technician. This all led her to obtain gainful employment at the Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center as an Outreach Coordinator.
Later, Rina was welcomed into a Benefit Coordinator Outreach position at CHASS. This job has helped her become stable enough to pay bills on time and even buy a car.
