Mr. Ahmed Al Khafaji was an Iraqi refugee who came to America with his wife and two daughters in 2014 looking for peace, opportunity, and a fresh start. With the help of his PATH program case manager, Ms. Ghada Turk, Mr. Al Khafaji enrolled in a resume writing workshop. After finalizing his resume, it was submitted to the Job Development Unit to refer to employers.
Mr. Al Khafaji kept applying for different employment positions. At times, he would get discouraged thinking his lack of U.S. work experience would hinder him, but he persevered and attended interviews with Caliper Staffing, Meijer, and Harbor Freight, and attended logistics training with MIAT in Canton. Finally, Ms. Turk received information from Business Service Representative, Sameh Elhady that Ford Motor Company would be holding a recruitment event at ACCESS and Mr. Al Khafaji was scheduled to complete an application.
In February 2015, he got a call from Ford informing him that he had been accepted. An eyeglass prescription helped him pass the physical, and he began full time employment with Ford, 40 hours a week at $15.78/hr, on February 16.
Mr. Al Khafaji and his family feel they are coming closer to self‐sufficiency and appreciate all the support they received in taking their first steps towards “The American Dream”.
