Now that the judge has spoken, barring all sorts of appeals, it looks like Kevyn Orr is now going to be able to knuckle down and get on the fast track. I have no doubt that everyone involved wants to make Detroit’s bankruptcy as painless as possible.

There are going to be lots of surprises. Things that we aren’t thinking about or even know anything about will be sprung on an unsuspecting public in the days and months ahead. Nothing sinister, just surprises as this whole process unwinds.

And it will have an end.

We will, hopefully sooner than later, see our balance sheet look pretty good after going through this bankruptcy. In fact, Mayor-elect Mike Duggan might well owe a great deal to Mr. Orr, regardless of whether he ever wants to admit it.
