Sakthi Automotive Group, an automotive parts maker in southwest Detroit, plans to boost employment from about 160 workers today to 650 by 2020, its CEO Lalit Verma told U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez.
And quite of few of those hired will be formerly incarcerated prisoners.
Perez toured the Sakthi complex on Ford Street near Livernois on Wednesday to highlight local efforts to make training and stable employment available to ex-prisoners, thereby helping to reduce recidivism and crime.
