Grand Rapids based retailer Meijer announced today that they are hiring for more than 270 positions to be created when their second Detroit store opens this summer.
Located on the site of the former Redford High School, the new store is hiring clerks, cake decorators, cashiers and meat cutters, to name but a few.
“Meijer is always looking for great team members and we’re especially excited to begin the hiring process for our newest supercenter in Detroit,” said Frank Guglielmi, senior director of communications for Meijer. “Our experience since opening our store at 8 Mile and Woodward clearly shows that Detroit appreciates the fresh solutions we offer our customers and we look forward to finding the right people to help us open our newest location.”
Once again, Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) is partnering with Meijer to recruit Detroiters interested in interviewing for the new positions.
“We are delighted to be working with Meijer again” said Pamela Moore, President and CEO of DESC. “We know the recruitment process for the 8 Mile and Woodward store in 2013 was a huge success. DESC helped recruit hundreds of staff for that location, and we have no doubt that many, many Detroiters will be excited by this new opportunity.”
While applications can be filled out online, DESC will also be running recruitment events in numerous locations around the city. At these events, jobseekers will gain access to interview skills and resume writing workshops similar to the ones used so successfully in recruiting qualified employees two years ago.
“If you want to increase your chances of success, you really need to be properly prepared – that means having a good, professional resume and knowing how to interview” said Pamela Moore.
DESC recruitment events will take place as follows:
- March 30th and 31st – Recruitment Event at Northwest Activities Center (18100 Meyers, Detroit, MI 48235)
- April 1st – Recruitment Event at Samaritan Center (5555 Conner Ave., Detroit, MI 48213)
- April 2nd – Recruitment Event at SER Metro (9301 Michigan Ave., Detroit, MI 48210)
Jobseekers not already registered with Detroit Employment Solutions should bring State/Federal Issued ID, Social Security Card, and either a current Resume or details of previous employment experience, if any.
