DESC helps Shinola recruit to meet surging demand

Shinola logoDetroit, January 31, 2014 – Detroit Employment Solutions is teaming up with luxury goods brand Shinola to recruit additional line assembly staff as the Detroit-based manufacturer experiences a surge in sales growth.

Shinola, which opened its doors in Detroit less than 12 months ago, is growing rapidly.  From a standing start in 2013, the company expects to double sales of wristwatches in 2014, with buyers around the U.S. and beyond prepared to pay a premium for American-made quality timepieces, journals, bicycles or leather goods.

Shinola is based within the College for Creative Studies in midtown Detroit, where increasing demand has generated a requirement for additional capacity, and Shinola has turned to Detroit Employment Solutions to recruit 25 line assembly employees, with more hires likely to follow.

“At Shinola, quality and craftsmanship are at the cornerstone of our brand,” said Shinola President Jacques Panis.  “It is therefore critical that we meet the opportunity of increasing demand with a skilled workforce. Recruiting people with an eye for detail and a strong work ethic is essential.”

Shinola production line“One of the main reasons Shinola chose Detroit was because of our strong manufacturing heritage” said Pamela Moore, President and CEO of Detroit Employment Solutions. “At DESC, we have a large database of Detroit jobseekers, many of whom we know will have the background and skills required for a precision assembly position.”

Successful candidates will be required to go through two interviews during the hiring event – the first with HR, and the second with manufacturing.  “20/20 vision, as well as high levels of manual dexterity and quality control are essential” said Jacques Panis.
